Decorating a sacred manuscripts with golden motives.
See how the artist fuses her love of music and art
Ottoman techniques and motives decorate biblical themed paintings, hamsas, blessings for the house and custom ketubahs.
Raquy Danziger, a world-famous darbuka player, discovered Ottoman-style illumination painting while living in Istanbul. This art form uses primarily gold paint to decorate manuscripts with motifs such as flowers, leaves, borders, geometric shapes and knots.
Raquy studied both illumination and Ottoman miniature painting under a master Turkish illuminist.
She uses the traditional techniques to make art which reflect her own world with the use of musical themes, the combination of Ottoman style with Judaica, and her fantastical self portraits.
